Record breaking participation in ISBI 2024
The 21st International Symposium in Biomedical Imaging (ISBI), chaired by Prof. Konstantina Nikita (National Technical University) and Prof. Christos Davatzikos (University of Pennsylvnia), took place in Athens, Greece, in 27-30 May; four incredible days of innovation, collaboration, and discovery in the heart of the Greek capital's insurmountable history and beauty. This year's symposium was a resounding success, thanks to the vast participation -more than 1,200 participants from 6 continents and more than 50 countries- the committees' vibrant vision, as well as a global community of researchers, reviewers, industry leaders, and professionals.
ISBI 2024 featured 229 oral papers and 717 posters in the latest advancements in biomedical imaging, welcomed renowned keynote speakers who shared their insights on this evolving landscape. The comprehensive technical program also included world-class special sessions, tutorials, challenges, exhibitions, demonstrations, and industry sessions. This year’s submissions were also connected with special issues in five journals; IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging: Advancements in Foundation Models for Medical Imaging, Computational and Structural Biotechnology Journal: Smart Hospital, Computer Vision and Image Understanding, Machine Learning for Biomedical Imaging MELBA, Medical Image Analysis, Biological Imaging.
True to IEEE's commitment to recognizing excellence, ISBI 2024 offered 50 student travel grants, 6 student paper awards (3 for best oral and 3 for best poster presentations), 4 pitch competition awards, 3 best artworks awards and recognition to our outstanding reviewers.
This year's symposium also emphasized Social Responsibility through various initiatives, including a collaboration with Soteur, a multidisciplinary artist who created artwork inspired by the symposium's themes. The finished piece was donated to ELEPAP, Greece's oldest charitable organization that supports children with motor disabilities and neurodevelopmental deficits.
An exceptional team of volunteers contributed to the success of ISBI 2024 through their dedication and hard work. From assisting with registration and technical support to guiding attendees and facilitating sessions, volunteers demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and professionalism throughout the event. Their commitment not only contributed to the symposium's operational excellence but also fostered a welcoming atmosphere, embodying the spirit of knowledge-sharing and community that ISBI stands for.
