Aimilia Gastounioti

PhD Thesis
Image-guided risk stratification for carotid atherosclerosis using spatiotemporal features of the arterial wall, NTUA, 2014.

Aimilia obtained the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in 2009, and the PhD degree on Biomedical Engineering, in 2014, from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. Aimilia has received scholarships from the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation (2010-2014) and grants from the Institute of Computer and Communication Systems (2010, 2012) for PhD studies, and she has been awarded with the "Τοuramanoglou" Endowment Scholarship (2004) and E.F.G. Eurobank excellence award (2004) for undergraduate studies. Her research interests include biomedical imaging, medical image analysis and machine learning toward computer-aided clinical diagnosis and treatment selection. Aimilia has authored/co-authored 20 papers in scientific journals and international conferences and 1 book chapter. She has also worked as a principal researcher in two National and two European funded projects on biomedical engineering. She serves as a scientific reviewer at the "Medical Image Analysis by Elsevier", "Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics by IEEE", “Scanning by Wiley”, “Ultrasonics by Elsevier”, "Computer Vision and Image Understanding by Elsevier", and "International Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering by SciencePG" journals, as well as in various international scientific conferences. Aimilia has worked as a teaching/laboratory assistant in 5 undergraduate/graduate courses in the field of biomedical engineering. She has also participated at the organizing committees of three international scientific conferences (Mobihealth 2011, IEEE BIBE 2013, Mobihealth 2014) and she is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society (UFFC) and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
